What is a thin bezel monitor?
“Thin bezel” is a term that gets thrown around a lot, and it’s worth it to take a moment to discuss what it actually means. Your monitor’s bezel is essentially its frame – that area around the screen that’s make of plastic or metal, and is usually about 3/4 of an inch wide. There has been a recent surge in the demand for thin bezel monitors, i.e. monitors with a thinner-than-average frame.
The Acer R240HY, for example, boasts a bezel that’s about 1/4 of an inch:
“Bezelless monitor” is another phrase you may hear to describe thin bezel monitors, but it is very rare to find a monitor that is truly bezel-less.
You’ll also hear the phrase “frameless monitor” to describe thin bezel monitors, but again, a monitor that truly has no frame probably doesn’t exist (we couldn’t find one!) For example, the ASUS Designo MX25AQ 25″ WQHD 2560×1440 IPS DP HDMI Eye Care Frameless Monitor calls itself frameless, but you can see from the product photo that it does actually have a very thin bezel:
Why thin bezel monitors are good for gamers
There’s a simple answer – less frame (a thinner bezel) equals more screen, which equals more space for you to see your game. A thin bezel also gives you the ability to put two or more monitors side-by-side to increase the size of your gaming screen with as little distraction as possible.

The cons of thin bezel monitors
Thin bezel monitors can be a little less sturdy than their regular bezel counterparts, simply because the thinner frame offers less support and protection. You can counteract this downside by getting a monitor with a metal bezel, which will generally be more sturdy than plastic.
